This is my house. My husband and I have lived here for 27 years. We raised our 3 sons here. We bought it because we loved the neighborhood, but the house itself had been gerrymandered and many of the old bones had been replaced.
We wanted to add back character and determined right away that we needed storage. We removed two bulky cabinets in the family room and designed shelves that flanked the French doors to house our collection of books. We added two built-ins with beveled glass doors to store our china and crystal. We love color - vivid happy colors - so we painted the family room a Granny Smith apple green. Over the years, we’ve collected our children’s art. To display their work and a collection of Portland maps, we hung two gallery walls on either side of the room.
